Refletion 7

1. Description of levels of classroom discussions:
There are three levels of classroom discussion. The first level is teacher to teacher. This is where teachers work collaboratively with one another and discuss strategies and lessons that might work better than another. The second level is student to student. Students should be able to communicate with one another. This allows them to share their ideas and findings and also learn from their peers and get ideas from one another. I believe that students learn from each other in such a wonderful way the they need to opportuniteis to talk and share amongst themselves. The third discussion is teacher to student. It is important for the students to have the opportunity to talk with the teacher and get feedback. Teachers need to be there for guidence for the students, and the students need to know and feel comfortable with talking to the teacher and sharing their thoughts and ideas.

2. Discussion on questions for "checking in" on students during a project:
Procedural: Making sure the students are staying on schedule. As teachers, we should be talking with the students and going over their calenders and their checklists to make sure they are on the right track. Teamwork:Making sure all of the teams are getting long, and that the teams are doing their own work loads and not taking on others. If the students are using blogger or any other thing, ask them to write about their teams work, and how the team is working together. Understanding: Making sure the students know what they are doing. As a teacher you should sped time listening, observing and talking with the teams and asking them questions making sure they are on task and doing what they should be. Self-assesment: This allows you to figure out what the students are thinking about the project. their progress through out the assignment. You can also question them on their thinking about the project and see if the students are frustrsted or confiden with their progress.

  3. Discussion on benefits to students when optimizing the use of technology:
Students will be able to gain new ways to communicate with a different type of audience. They may also gain in new ways to take criticism that might help them in the future.

4. Discussion on the 21st-century skills that can make or break a project:
Pay close attention to the way that the teams work with each other. Allow the students to manage their own team conflicts this will be very beneficial in the future. Also, boost their confidence and allow them to talk about the strengths they have when working with a team.

5. Discussion on how concepts in this chapter relate to your topic/project:
The concepts in this chapter relate to my project becasue we have to do so many levels of communication for this project. We have to talk to our fellow students to get ideas and understandings about the project. Also, we need to talk to the teacher and make sure we are on the right track. The teacher also talks to us and makes sure we are working in the correct way to manage our time and allow us to have all our work turned in on time.

  1. When students gain new ways to communicate with different types of audiences during their lesson plans it fits perfectly in with Michigan Standards and Benchmarks for fifth graders! I just had to deal with that for one of my lesson plans.
